BOTM: DT SWISS INSPIRED U.P. - part 3

Andy Kessler - 22-Dec-2017
After the beauty shot of the DT Swiss inspired U.P. here a gallery with some riding pictures from our two day trip in the Swiss Jura. I thought its vacation time and you have a bit more time to look at a small selection from over 350 images.

We had an epic two days, the weather was on our side and the route that Alex from DT selected was perfect. Ok on day 1 we got a bit lost and were running late and the last 30 minutes of our ride was dark as dark can be. And yes on day 2 there was one climb with stairs and steep super narrow trails where you could not make a wrong move otherwise you would have fallen down about 300 meters vertical. Our photographer Marc did it with a E-Mountain Bike on his shoulders. At the end it is always those things that you remember not the nice and easy stuff...

Enjoy the gallery:

I am really interested in the OPEN U.P.P.E.R. I currently ride a road bike. It's a fairly aggressive bike but I'm getting older and looking for a more relaxed ride. But I don't want to ride a noodle. I really like the philosophy of the OPEN folks. I'm wondering if there is a review, or pictures, or a BOTW for a bike with two chain rings on the front. If so, would you send me the link, please?

It seems that the reason for the OPEN design is its versatility regardless of terrain. I don't necessarily want to ride "off road" but I regularly encounter construction, junk roads, etc and I want to run wider tires, a tubeless wheelset, and disc brakes. I'd also like to have the convenience of Ultegra Di2, or another recommended electronic shifting solution.

I love your site. I love being a subscriber. I've seen your bikes at my LBS, Contender Cycles of Salt Lake City, UT. Last summer, I road in the Lauderbrunnen region of Switzerland. It is truly spectacular. I live near Salt Lake City, UT. It has its own kind of spectacular. You're invited to come out here.

Thank you for your time. Keep up the good work.

Hi Al, good suggestions from mgntgn. Also, if you go to the UP/UPPER product page and scroll down to the galleries, you will see the April 2017 BOTM which was the Assos UPPER and it has a Shimano 2x set-up. Very nice frame, just as unobtainable as the Yeti and DT frame of course, but the frame is the same as the "regular" UPPER.

I think most of us have "offroad" sections on our paved roads, no matter where you live, so going wider on tires and rims makes sense. And my guess is, once you have that setup, those little trails off the main paved roads will start to look more and more interesting every time you ride by. I was in Park City twice the past two years, lovely area and perfect for an UP/UPPER. All the best,

Gerard
