BOTM: U.P.P.E.R. C.L.A.S.S. - part 3

Andy Kessler - 24-Mar-2017
Here we go with part 3 of our Bike of the Month. In part 2 we showed you for the first time pictures of a complete assembled U.P.P.E.R. We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback to this gallery and the launch in general.

It has been almost a month since we launched the U.P.P.E.R. during our CrossFondue event. But it feels much longer. We are working hard to keep up with the demand. We can fulfill all existing orders but expect some shortages over the  next couple of weeks. We try to have them back in stock in an acceptable time frame.

We have more BOTMs with the U.P.P.E.R. frame in the pipeline for inspiration over the next couple of months.

Here we go with the details specifications of this black beauty.

Most Campy cranks don't fit. Some do. We'll show some options in one of the upcoming BOTMs, just waiting for some parts from Campy to double-check.

Nice build. Can I add a SRAM 10-50 Eagle cassette and chainring with road bike shifters. I'm looking for a configuration with up to 500% gear ratio

That is not possible, the only rear derailleur that will shift that cassette is the Eagle derailleur and it isn't compatible with SRAM's road shifters.

But good news, you can run a completely standard SRAM Force 1 group with the long cage Force 1 rear derailleur and use an e13 cassette. It definitely shifts fine with the 9-44 cassette (almost 500%) and probably also with the new 9-46 (a little over 500%) but I haven't installed the latter yet. Of course make sure your front ring is also 10% smaller to have the same gear-inches you wanted on that 10-50 cassette.

a couple of quick of quick questions for you. i ma 265 lbs and looking at the UP. Am I too heavy for the carbon frame. want to buy a frameset that lasts forever. Also i hear people say wheels and tires are very important when it comes to supporting the frame, however most have weight limits too. Should I be concerned with those limits as well? used to ride custom steel frameset w no limits. planned riding is primarily road (chip seal) and some gravel / path. no real hard trail riding. Your thoughts please

I am not too worried about the frame, for the wheels it really depends as there are so many options. Definitely the choice there is important, it also affects how much abuse all the other parts on your bike see. I would recommend to go with a 650b wheelset intended for mountain bike, and go on the sturdier side. There are plenty of options there that don't have a weight limit, and since they will see a bit less abuse than on a mountain bike, you should be fine. And then you can run something like a Horizon 47c for road-focussed applications and a full-on 2" mountain bike tire for tougher off-road rides.

This is such a gorgeous bike. I love those lines of the seat stays merging at the seat tube. Chapeau!

Hi, there no this is not passible as Eagle is 12 speed. The max ration you could get with an E thirteen cassette. There you could get 9-46 with Force CX1 shifters that a good range.

is there any chance you will be offering decals for sale. I would love to get OPEN frame decal set with your flagship colors (green, blue, brown & orange). would be nice on an RTP frameset. Also and difference in durability if frame set is not painted?

We don't recommended leaving an RTP frame completely unpainted. At this point we do not offer decal sets since the sets we use are specific to our painting process so they are of no use to custom painters.

Can you help me understand why you don't recommend leaving the RTP unpainted? Will it affect the durability of the frame? Or is it just an aesthetic issue?
