BOTM: The NON FAT - part 1
Andy Kessler - 16-Jun-2016
Originally I planned to have the Non Fat ONE + ready for Seaotter where we launched our new hardtail frame. It would have been the brother of the
Low Fat ONE + that we featured as BOTM in April. Goal was to show the versatility of the ONE + frame. With the boost standard and massive tire clearance you can choose between the best of two worlds (or with a second wheel set have all options available).
The Low Fat ONE + was based on 27.5 Plus wheels with 3.0 tires. The Non Fat is based on a 29" wheel set with clearance for tires up to 2.4.
The built for this bike is in my head since a long time. Actually for over 2 years. As you might know the ONE project started in Germany back when we were working on a German production. The working title would have been the "German ONE". I thought it would be quite cool to put as much as possible German parts on a bike.
It is funny, often people ask me what OPEN I ride. I never really had one for myself which might sound strange. But I try to ride as many as possible different builds. Often I have a bike only for a week or so and then it moves on for a test in a magazine or a trade show
. Or I just take the parts off and rebuild it with something new that we have to test. Sometimes I have no bike at all for a couple of weeks (ok I still have the first OPEN ever built that helps me during those days).
I built once a bike for the Eurobike tradeshow that came very close to what I would like to keep for myself
but then a customer saw it, liked it and I made him happy.
Back to the BOTM: 2 years later the idea of making a German ONE was still in my head and I wanted to have that bike finally built. Changing to Boost did not really speed up things as most lightweight stuff was not available in Boost or is just about to become available.
Normally we show a picture in the first BOTM blog. Sorry to say I have nothing right now. I just finished the build of the Non Fat yesterday evening and leaving in half an hour to Italy for a photoshoot with our friend and photographer Marc. So you need some patience but later this month you should see some of the work of the next 2 days.
You can not wait ? Ok here a little teaser before I started the built….
