Over the years, Andy and i have put together a fair number of pretty cool OPEN bikes. Some for ourselves, some for the media and some for trade shows. And then we rebuild them into something else, or sell them, and they are gone forever. For most, that's OK, but with some builds, that's a shame. Especially when we think that such a particular build could also be a nice spec for some of our customers.
Normally if a bike company considers a certain spec to be a good choice for its customers, it will offer that spec as a complete bike. That's pretty much the business model of a bike company, isn't it? But since we don't really offer complete bikes, that avenue doesn't exist for us.
So starting this month, we'll present to you every month a bike with the incredibly original name "Bike Of The Month". Every week that month, we'll publish some info on it, be it a story, a photo gallery, a video or a detailed spec list. Maybe it's exactly the dream spec you were looking for, maybe you'd change 1001 things but it shows you this one cool part you didn't know existed. It doesn't really matter, we have no agenda other than to show the range of builds that are possible with our frames and the bikes we like to ride ourselves.
In some cases, if the feedback is very positive, we may make a very small run of complete bikes with that spec available, or maybe semi-complete bikes. After all, you can get Shimano or SRAM anywhere, you and your OPEN retailer don't need us for that. So more likely we'll offer the frame and the special parts as a limited-run package, and then you still have the freedom to choose any drivetrain you prefer (and appropriate for where you live) for it. And in the meantime, we move on to the next Bike Of The Month.
Now for the first BOTM, Andy already decided in advance you all would give him super-positive feedback on it so he has already decided to make it available as a limited edition. Let's see if he's right. Therefore, without further ado, here it is; the first ever OPEN cycle Bike Of The Month: "MCFK me, it's light!".
